Power Outage

Facts: A wide-spread power outage is currently affecting the Seattle area. Full restoral of the system may take several days. Rolling outages are likely to balance existing demands on critical infrastructure.

What to do:

  • Use flashlights, light sticks or battery-power lanterns for emergency lighting. Do not use candles due to increased risk of fire.
  • Do not use a kerosene heater, gas lantern, gas stove or generator inside the house – this causes carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Unplug computers and other sensitive equipment to protect from possible surges when power is restored.
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to keep food from spoiling.
  • Conserve water, especially if you use well water.
  • Stay tuned to the radio for updates on emergency information.
  • If you know of someone who is unable to understand, see, or hear this message, please tell them about it.
