Inspectors determined this afternoon that damage from a Tuesday vehicle crash on First Avenue was causing a risk of fire, so Seattle City Light will cut power to the surrounding area about 10 p.m. to eliminate the hazard and make repairs.
About 60 customers along Occidental Avenue between King and Royal Brougham streets will be affected by the outage. Crews planned to disconnect the damaged equipment and restore power to the remaining customers in about an hour. They’ll then begin work to repair the damaged equipment.
Before the crews could start work, they needed to pump water out of the underground vaults that house the power lines serving the area.
The damage was caused when a truck hopped the curb, ran over a steeland concrete bollard, and then hit a commercial service junction that supplies electricity to a warehouse.
